or in other words the reason why I've slumped down on my blogging duties... or in other words nap time! My kid doesn't have one. Research says that young babies should be sleeping around 18 hours a day. Who are these babies? Where do they exist? Chase is the most alert 4 month old I've ever encountered (admittedly my benchmarks are relatively scarce). At the library reading hour each week someone comments on how alert he is while his counterparts snooze away in their car seats. A lot of books highlight babies should be awake for no more than 2 hours. Chase has given us around a 12 hour stretch on more than one occasion. Other theories highlight an eat, play, sleep pattern. Awesome. He eats like a champ (significant progress from 3 weeks old), plays with the best of em, then looks at me like a lunatic when we get to the napping part. I succumb to the swing, car rides and walking and still only have a 50% success rate. The first two always preceded by at least 10 minutes of screaming. And I love walking, but its a drag in 20 degree weather. I've let him 'cry it out'. I've followed all the same sleep cues at night. I get him to sleep in my arms and the moment his head hits the crib, voila, eyes open. I know I should be helping him develop better sleep patterns and I feel awful that I can't. Awful and exhausted.
On a bright note, he is extremely easy and consistent to put down at night. And I really don't want to ruin that by struggling during the day.
Example from yesterday. Up at 6:30am, 30 min snooze in the car, finally down for a nap in the stroller at 5:00pm. Looks pretty sleepy right? Approximately 2 minutes after this photo he was raring to go.
